“Be too busy working on your own grass that you don’t have time to compete with others.”
I learned this valuable lesson about competition at a very young age.
My dad was the first person to teach me to always challenge myself. Every time I achieve anything in life, he would challenge me to do better. If I ended up in the top 5 of my class, my dad would ask how come I wasn’t in the top 3. If I won a silver medal from my swimming competition, he would ask why I couldn’t get gold. It was hard to get a compliment from my dad growing up because he always told me that life was a series of challenges and mountains to climb. He taught me never to compete with anyone but myself. He used to say that winners are not winners because they want to win the race with others. They are winners because they want to win the race with themselves.
